This new 2026 study looks at the intersection of mental health, suicide attempts and substance use among adults with FASD, with a particular focus on differences between men and women. Using a relatively large sample of 238 adults with FASD, the researchers found high rates of mental health concerns and a particularly concerning prevalence of suicide attempts, especially among women. The findings reinforce the importance of looking beyond the neurodevelopmental impacts of FASD and ensuring that mental health, trauma, substance use and suicide prevention are part of how we think about supports across adulthood.
