The impact of a brief web-based intervention on improving awareness of the need to reduce alcohol consumption during pregnancy among high-risk female college student drinkers: a quasi-experimental study

This study examined whether a short, 30-minute online education session could help young women who drink heavily better understand the risks of drinking during pregnancy and feel more confident about refusing alcohol. Students who participated showed improved awareness, stronger intentions to avoid alcohol if they became pregnant, and increased confidence in saying no to drinking in social situations.

The study did not find major short-term changes in how much participants actually drank, which suggests that behavior change may take longer than changes in awareness or motivation. Overall, the findings show that brief, low-cost online education can support prevention efforts and promote healthier decision-making before pregnancy.
