A recent narrative review examined the neurodevelopmental effects of perinatal cannabis exposure, highlighting both clinical and preclinical findings. The research shows that while results are often mixed, there is consistent evidence linking prenatal cannabis use to an increased risk of ADHD in children, and in some cases, to cognitive and behavioral challenges. Other outcomes, such as autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, and learning delays, remain inconclusive due to limitations in study design, self-reporting, and evolving cannabis potency over generations. Importantly, the review underscores the lack of standardized methods for measuring exposure and outcomes, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions.
