CCSA: National Addictions Awareness Week 2020

Excerpt taken from https://www.ccsa.ca/national-addictions-awareness-week

This Year Declare, Change Begins with Me!

National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW) is from November 22 to 28.

Change Begins with Me is the theme for this year’s National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW). We want to present Canadians with ways they can reassess the way they think about substance use disorders and people who use drugs. Change Begins with Me builds on our 2019 NAAW campaign, Stigma Ends with Me.

We want people to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year, social media will be our main platform to promote NAAW. We will be running two campaigns to convince Canadians to be part of changing stigmatizing culture. You can either Share the Facts or Be an Ambassador for Change.

Spread the Message

The team at CCSA has created a suite of resources to help get the word out.

Using the hashtags #ChangeBeginsWithMe and #NAAW, please share your NAAW activities and promotions on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and show how you are trying to make changes in your community. You can share your plans, photos and social media information by emailing media@ccsa.ca or tag us on social media.

Social Media Campaign 1 — Be an Ambassador for Change

Become an Ambassador for Change. We are encouraging people to make a conscious choice and take real action to improve the lives of people dealing with substance use disorder. Small deeds can make big differences.

Download our Be an Ambassador for Change social media graphics below. Pair them with our Be an Ambassador for Change posts from our social media content bank (coming soon) or use them as standalone posts and share them to your online communities through your social media platforms.

Social Media Campaign 2 — Share the Facts

During each day of NAAW, we will Share the Facts on a different substance or issue affecting substance use and addition. Sharing the facts will help to drive home information every Canadian should know about substance use. Share these facts and resources and begin a conversation about them.

The themes for each day during NAAW are:

Sunday, November 22: Cannabis
Monday, November 23: COVID-19 and Substance Use
Tuesday, November 24: Methamphetamine
Wednesday, November 25: Opioids
Thursday, November 26: Gambling/Addiction
Friday, November 27: Alcohol
Saturday, November 28: Addiction Is Real/Journey to Wellness Is Real

Download our Share the Facts social media graphics below. Pair them with our Share the Facts posts from our social media content bank (coming soon) and post them on the days outlined in the schedule above.
