Navigating cannabis use during pregnancy and chest/breastfeeding raises questions about health, safety and well-being. Our recent research shows that people who are pregnant, planning to conceive, chest/breastfeeding or caring for very young children want evidence-informed, compassionate advice about cannabis use. We’ve also heard that healthcare providers often feel ill-equipped to support patients with their cannabis use.
Finding clear, reliable information about this can help people understand potential risks and make informed decisions about their health and the health of their baby.
That’s why we’re reaching out today. We recently led qualitative research exploring the experiences, perceptions, decision-making, and information needs of pregnant and chest/breastfeeding individuals in relation to cannabis.
We’ve since developed resources to help address gaps identified in research — explore and share them with your clients:
- Starting Healthcare Conversations: Cannabis, Pregnancy and Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding helps people feel better prepared to initiate conversations about this topic with a healthcare provider to have non-stigmatizing and supportive discussions about their health.
- Your Questions: Cannabis, Pregnancy and Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding addresses commonly asked questions identified through qualitative research and our environmental scan in a way that is compassionate and evidence based.
