CanFASD is excited to share that we have updated one of our most widely used resources for 2026: Common Messages: Guidelines for Talking and Writing About FASD.
This living document is updated annually by the CanFASD team, researchers, partners, and people with lived experience to reflect the latest evidence, emerging research, and best practices in respectful and accurate FASD communication.
The 2026 edition provides updated guidance on:
- Using respectful, strength-based, and person-centred language when discussing FASD
- Sharing accurate information about prevalence, outcomes, prevention, and supports
- Avoiding stigma, blame, and harmful narratives
- Incorporating the perspectives and experiences of people with FASD and their families
- Understanding emerging areas of research and evolving conversations in the FASD community
