Preconception Health Behavior in Adolescents: A ScopingReview

ABSTRACT
A review of the literature on preconception health (PCH) behavior in adults was undertaken, but more is needed to know about PCH behavior in adolescents. This scoping review aimed to characterize PCH behaviors among teenagers based on published publications as a foundation for determining the need for preconception care (PCC) intervention. This scoping review combed the literature using PubMed, JSTOR, and the Cochrane Library databases. The dates of publication spanned from July 2020 to June 2023. According to the findings, adolescent PCH behavior comprises substance misuse, an unhealthy diet, a self-image that may influence adolescent nutrition consumption, a sedentary lifestyle, sex activity without contraception, and a mental health problem. As part of a preconception care intervention, future research could design a health promotion model tailored for teenagers.
